Matthew Robinson (Paralympic Skier)
Matthew John Robinson (24 October 1985 – 21 February 2014) was an Australian Paralympic snowboarder who died as a result of a snowboarding accident at La Molina, Spain. Personal Robinson was born 25 October 1985. He was the youngest son of Stephen and Carol Ann. His siblings were Tracy and Jarrod. At the time of his death his fiancée was Gecel and he lived in Melbourne, Victoria. Snowboarding Robinson had an arm impairment and competed in the upper limb classification. This classification was not included in the 2014 Winter Paralympics program. In 2014, he won Australia's first IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup snowboard gold medal in Copper Mountain, Colorado. He also won a silver medal at this event. The previous year, he won a bronze medal at the same event. At the time of his death, he was leading at the IPC World Cup snowboard rankings. 2014 Winter Paralympics Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Paralympics took place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, Russia, on 7 March 2014. It began at 20:14 MSK (UTC+4) to match the time to the year. Ceremony The opening ceremony was titled "Breaking the Ice" and centered on breaking down barriers and celebrating Russian culture. It opened with a rhythmic dance featuring 126 performers dressed in the colors of the Russian flag. Russian dance and music were featured throughout, as performances were interspersed with animated segments featuring drawings of the firebird, a staple of Russian mythology, by Alexander Petrov. Tchaikovsky's " Sugar Plum Fairy" and an homage to ice fishing were among the performances. International Paralympic Committee
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC; german: Internationales Paralympisches Komitee) is an international non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. Founded on 22 September 1989 in Düsseldorf, West Germany, its mission is to "enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world". Philip Craven
Sir Philip Lee Craven (born 4 July 1950) is an English sports administrator, former Paralympic wheelchair basketball player, swimmer and track and field athlete. Between 2001 and 2017 he was the second president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Early life and education Craven was born on 4 July 1951 in Bolton, England. He was educated at Bolton School Boys' Division, where he was a keen swimmer, cricketer and tennis player. In 1966, at the age of 16, he fell during a rock-climbing expedition at Wilton Quarries, Bolton. The accident left him without the use of his legs. He studied geography at the University of Manchester, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1972. Athlete Craven represented Great Britain in wheelchair basketball at five editions of the Paralympic Games, from 1972 to 1988. Australia At The 2014 Winter Paralympics
Australia sent nine competitors to the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. The delegation also consisted of two sighted guides and 15 support staff. The team won two bronze medals. Para-snowboarding classification is the classification system for para-snowboarding. The sport originally called Adaptive Snowboard is now practiced by hundreds of athletes around the world.
