Matthew Phelps
Matthew James Phelps (born 1 September 1972 in Lismore, New South Wales) is an Australian first-class cricketer who played for the New South Wales Blues. He was a right-handed middle order batsman. Matthew Phelps' career began in 1998-99 and ended in 2006 when he retired aged 33 after a career best domestic season where he was named NSW Pura Cup Player of the Year. He scored 635 runs at 45.35 with 3 centuries. It was the second season in a row that he had scored over 600 runs. Of his 6 first-class tons in his career he was able to score one in his home town of Lismore, an innings of 133 against Victoria. He finished his career with 2380 first-class runs at 37.77 from 38 matches. His highest score was 192 which came against Tasmania in 1999-2000. Lismore is a city in northeastern New South Wales, Australia and the main population centre in the City of Lismore Local government in Australia, local government area; it is also a regional centre in the Northern Rivers region of the State. It is situated on a low flood plain on the banks of the Wilsons River (New South Wales), Wilsons River near the latter's junction with Leycester Creek, both tributaries of the Richmond River which enters the Pacific Ocean at Ballina, New South Wales, Ballina, to the east. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. New South Wales Cricket Team
The New South Wales men's cricket team (formerly named NSW Blues) are an Australian men's professional first class cricket team based in Sydney, New South Wales. The team competes in the Australian first class cricket competition known as the Sheffield Shield and the limited overs Marsh One-Day Cup. The team previously played in the now defunct Twenty20, Big Bash, which has since been replaced by the Big Bash League since the 2011–12 season. New South Wales were the inaugural winners of the Champions League Twenty20. They are the most successful domestic cricket side in Australia having won the First-class competition 47 times.
