Matthew McLean
Matt McLean (born 1986) is a Welsh rugby union player currently playing for Worthing Raiders in National League 2 South. Known for both his try scoring and kicking prowess, as of the end of the 2018-19 season, Matt is the most prolific points scorer in National League 2 South with over 2,300 points scored for Worthing, including three seasons as the division's top points scorer (another record), as well as being the division's 2nd highest try scorer of all-time with 115 tries. A former Wales youth international, he has also represented his country in rugby sevens. Career Early career Growing up in Cardiff, Matt attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf school. Full-back (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. The 2011–12 National League 2 South was the third season (25th overall) of the fourth tier (south) of the English domestic rugby union competitions since the professionalised format of the second division was introduced. The 2008–09 National Division Three South was the ninth and last season (22nd overall) of the fourth division (south) of the English domestic rugby union competition using the name National Division Three South. The division was set to be re-branded National League 2 South for the following season due to an RFU reshuffle of the entire league system. The 2007–08 Welsh Premier Division or 2007–08 Principality Premiership for sponsorship reasons was the sixteenth Welsh Premier Division. The season began on Saturday 1 September 2007 and ended on Wednesday 7 May 2008. Fourteen teams played each other on a home and away basis. 2008–09 National Division One
The 2008–09 National Division One was the 22nd full season of rugby union within the second tier of the English league system, currently known as the RFU Championship. Leeds Carnegie joined National Division One, having been relegated from the Guinness Premiership after the 2007–08 season. Otley and Manchester were promoted from the 2007–08 National Division Two. Leeds Carnegie won a quick promotion back to the Guinness Premiership, while five teams were relegated to the newly named 2009–10 National League 1: Esher, Sedgley Park, Newbury, Otley and Manchester. WRU League 1 East
The Welsh Rugby Union Specsavers Division One East is a rugby union league in Wales. It was 'born' out of a restructure of the former league system that had formally begun in Wales for the 1990/91 season. As a result of the restructure of 2006, the WRU decided to divide the then Division One into two leagues, East and WRU Division One West, West, and Division 1 East was implemented and became a regular part of the fixture list. In 2014, another restructure of Welsh Rugby's league system saw more changes within the Division One tier. The WRU Challenge Cup (currently known as the Specsavers Cup due to sponsorship), or its full name of the Welsh Rugby Union Challenge Cup, is Wales' premier knockout rugby union competition and is organised by the Welsh Rugby Union. WRU League 2 East
The Welsh Rugby Union League 2 East (also called the SWALEC League 2 East for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 12 clubs in the WRU League 2 East. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 22 games for each club, with a total of 132 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two point for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match.
