Matthew James Kessel (born June 23, 2000) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League (NHL). Early life Kessel was born on June 23, 2000 in Arizona, USA to parents Tom and Leila Kessel. Although he was born in Arizona, Kessel grew up in Detroit, Michigan alongside his three older brothers. The eldest brother played football briefly at the University of Cincinnati. The second oldest brother played college hockey at Western Michigan University before transitioning to the ECHL. The third oldest brother played college hockey at the College of the Holy Cross from 2017 to 2021. The Sioux Falls Stampede are a Tier I junior ice hockey team based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Stampede are members of the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Greg Carvel
Gregory Joseph Carvel (born August 17, 1970) is an American former NCAA ice hockey player. He is currently the head coach for the UMass Minutemen of the Hockey East conference. Carvel has been a head coach at St Lawrence University and an assistant coach in the National Hockey League (NHL) with both the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. Career Greg Carvel is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, having played four years for the ice hockey program. After a short professional career Carvel became an assistant coach and progressed from high school through college and into the NHL as an assistant.
