Matthew Holmes (director)
Matthew Holmes is an Australian film director, producer, writer and actor. Biography Holmes started his film career as a stop-motion animator. He also worked as an animator and sculptor on several Award-winning short films directed by Michael Cusack, including ''The Book-Keeper'', ''(R)evolution'' and ''Gargoyle''. Gargoyle won an AACTA Award for Best Short Animation in 2006. Holmes first full-length film '' Twin Rivers'' was a live-action drama and was made primarily with support from family and friends, with no crew. Filming began in 2001 and continued for four years, wrapping in 2004. Holmes was one of the lead animators on the 2013 short film ''Woody'', directed by Stuart Bowen. When the trailer for ''The Legend of Ben Hall'' was released, the project was picked up by Odin's Eye Entertainment and RCL Motion Picture Entertainment and expanded into a 2-hour feature film, incorporating the footage from the short film into the feature. The Legend Of Ben Hall
''The Legend of Ben Hall'' is a 2016 Australian bushranger film. Written and directed by Matthew Holmes, it is based on the exploits of bushranger Ben Hall and his gang. The film stars Jack Martin in the title role, Jamie Coffa as John Gilbert, and William Lee as John Dunn. Holmes' goal with ''The Legend of Ben Hall'' was to produce a historically accurate film that focuses on the last nine months of Hall's life, when he was a well-established bushranger along with his accomplices Gilbert and Dunn. It explores the relationships within the gang and depicts many of their robberies and clashes with the police. The film also explores the details surrounding Hall's betrayal and his controversial death at the hands of the police on 5 May 1865. Stop Motion
Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back. Any kind of object can thus be animated, but puppets with movable joints (puppet animation) or plasticine figures (''clay animation'' or claymation) are most commonly used. Puppets, models or clay figures built around an armature are used in model animation. Stop motion with live actors is often referred to as pixilation. Stop motion of flat materials such as paper, fabrics or photographs is usually called cutout animation. Twin Rivers is a 2007 South Australian feature film directed and written by Matthew Holmes and co-written by South Australian author Meredith Resce and Peter Court. It stars Darren Holmes, Matthew Holmes, Robyn Dickinson, Joshua Jaeger, Hakan Magill and Jonathan Western. Set over 48 hours, the film follows two men as they seek to enact vengeance on a convicted felon, by taking him deep into the bush to inflict a series of brutal punishments. It stars Jordan Fraser-Trumble, Damon Hunter, Kevin Dee, Nicole Pastor and Clayton Watson. The director's intentions with ''The Cost'' was to explore at the moral, ethical and emotional implications surrounding vengeance and vigilante justice.
