Matthew Burston
Matthew Burston (born 25 November 1982) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Cairns Taipans of the National Basketball League (NBL). He has also played in the State Basketball League for the Perry Lakes Hawks, and has spent time in the Qatari Basketball League and the Big V. Career Burston debuted in the NBL for the Perth Wildcats during the 2000–01 season, and played for them until 2006. In 2003, he won the NBL Most Improved Player Award. In April 2006, Burston signed a one-year deal with the South Dragons. Burston spent much of the 2006–07 season injured, playing only a handful of games. He remained with the Dragons for two more seasons and was a member of the 2009 championship-winning team. On 22 June 2009, Burston signed with the Adelaide 36ers for the 2009–10 NBL season. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five Basketball position, positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall. Centers are valued for their ability to protect their own goal from high-percentage close attempts on defense, while scoring and rebounding with high efficiency on offense. Cairns (, ) is a city in Queensland, Australia, on the tropical north east coast of Far North Queensland. The 2009–10 NBL season was the 32nd season of competition since its establishment in 1979. A total of eight teams contested the league. The 48-minute game switched to a 40-minute game. The Qatari Basketball League () is the top-tier men's basketball league operating in Qatar. The winning team obtains the participation right to the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. The first official season took place in 1981/82. There is a second division and two domestic cup tournaments, the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Qatar Crown Prince Cup.
