Mattar MRT Station
Mattar MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Downtown line in Geylang planning area, Singapore. As its name suggests, it is located underneath Mattar Road, at the junction of Merpati Road. The station serves places such as Canossa Convent School, Masjid Sallim Mattar and The Church of St Stephen (Roman Catholic). One of the entrances is adjacent to the Circuit Road hawker centre. History The station was first announced on 20 August 2010 when the 16 stations of the Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) from the River Valley (now Fort Canning) to Expo stations were unveiled. The line was expected to be completed in 2017. Contract 932 for the construction of Mattar station and associated tunnels was awarded to Sato Kogyo (S) Pte Ltd at a sum of in April 2011. 1 Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Geylang
Geylang is a planning area and township located on the eastern fringe of the Central Region of Singapore, bordering Hougang and Toa Payoh in the north, Marine Parade in the south, Bedok in the east, and Kallang in the west. Geylang is perhaps best known as a red-light district, particularly the areas along Geylang Road. Geylang is also where one of Singapore's oldest Malay settlements, Geylang Serai, is located. Fort Canning MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Downtown Line (DTL), located on the boundary of Museum and Singapore River planning areas, Singapore. Situated on the northern bank of the Singapore River, the station is at the foot of Fort Canning, which the station is named after. The station serves various developments including UE Square and Clarke Quay, as well as Fort Canning Park. First announced as River Valley MRT station in August 2010, constructing the connecting tunnels to the station was one of the most complex projects on the DTL. It involved the diversion of the Singapore River, while the tunnels to the adjacent Bencoolen station had to be constructed near existing operational tunnels. Expo MRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the East West line (EWL) and Downtown line (DTL) in the Tampines planning area, Singapore. The station lies between Changi City Point and the Singapore Expo, located along Changi South Avenue 1 at the junction of Expo Drive. The station is part of the two-station branch line which extends from Tanah Merah to Changi Airport station. Plans to connect the EWL to Changi Airport were finalised in 1996 and construction began in 1999. The station opened on 10 January 2001, a year earlier than Changi Airport station. It later became the terminus for the DTL upon the completion of Stage 3 of that line in 2017.
