Matt Trieber
Matthew A. Trieber, known as Matt Trieber, is an American politician from Bellows Falls, Vermont. A member of the Democratic Party, he is also a member of the Vermont House of Representatives, representing the Windham-3 district. He was appointed to the legislature by Governor Peter Shumlin in January 2011. Born and raised in Lynbrook, New York, Trieber is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he earned a degree in earth and space sciences. He works as an environmental consultant. Trieber ran for the Rockingham selectboard in 2010, winning a one-year seat. When a three-year seat opened up on the board later in 2010, Trieber sought it and was elected. In January 2011, longtime state representative Mike Obuchowski stepped down from the legislature to become Vermont’s Commissioner of Buildings and General Services. The city of Rutland is the seat of Rutland County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 15,807. It is located approximately north of the Massachusetts state line, west of New Hampshire state line, and east of the New York state line. Rutland is the third largest city in the state of Vermont after Burlington and South Burlington. It is surrounded by the town of Rutland, which is a separate municipality. The downtown area of the city is listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. History The town of Rutland was chartered in 1761 and named after John Manners, 3rd Duke of Rutland. It was settled in 1770 and served as one of the capitals of the Republic of Vermont. Windham County is a county located in the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, the population was 45,905. The shire town (county seat) is Newfane, and the largest municipality is the town of Brattleboro. History Fort Bridgman, Vernon, was burned in 1755, a casualty of the French and Indian War. The Court of Common Pleas (established 1768) of the County of Cumberland (established July 3, 1766) of the Province of New York was moved to the town of Westminster in 1772. On July 4, 1776, the Province of New York became an independent state. Rebecca A. "Becca" Balint (born May 4, 1968) is an American politician who is a member of the United States House of Representatives from Vermont's at-large congressional district as a member of the Democratic Party. She served as a member of the Vermont Senate from Windham County from 2015 to 2023, as majority leader from 2017 to 2021, and as president pro tempore from 2021 to 2023. Balint was born in Heidelberg, West Germany, and raised in Peekskill, New York.
