Matt Towe
Matt Towe (born 7 January 1988) is a former English professional ice hockey forward who last played for the Belfast Giants in the EIHL, having re-signed with the club for a second time on a short-term deal in September 2016. This was then extended for the duration of the 2016-2017 season after then-head coach Derrick Walser was impressed with his performance. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice going from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. English Premier Ice Hockey League
The English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL) was an ice hockey league of 10 teams, all of which were based in England. Headquartered in Blackpool, the EPIHL was one of two professional ice hockey leagues in the United Kingdom (the other being the Elite Ice Hockey League). A total of 27 teams played in the league at one time or another. Swindon Wildcats were the only team to have consistently featured in the EPIHL from its inaugural season in 1997-98. Derrick Walser
Derrick Walser (born May 12, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently an assistant coach of the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League. Walser played 91 National Hockey League (NHL) games with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Career Walser was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Calgary Flames on October 16, 1998. He was immediately assigned to Calgary's ECHL affiliate in Johnstown. Walser would spend parts of two seasons with the Johnstown Chiefs where he would score 25 goals and 38 goals in 73 games. Walser, along with teammate Joel Irving were named starters for the Eastern Conference in the 2000 ECHL All-Star game. Walser would spend the entire 2000-01 season in the AHL with the Saint John Flames. Walser played 91 career NHL games, all with the Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring 8 goals and 21 assists for 29 points.
