Matthew Green (British Politician)
Matthew Roger Green (born 12 April 1970, Shropshire) is a former British politician. He was the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Ludlow from 2001 to 2005, and his party's spokesman on the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Parliamentary career He contested Wolverhampton South West in 1997 and was a councillor prior to his election to parliament. Green was elected MP for Ludlow at the 2001 United Kingdom general election, with a majority of 1,630. He was the first Liberal to represent Ludlow since 1886. Green was appointed the party's spokesman on youth affairs in November 2001, and was spokesman on the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister between 2002 and 2003. He lost his seat to the Conservative, Philip Dunne, in the 2005 general election. Matthew Green (Canadian Politician)
Matthew Green (born September 10, 1980) is a Canadian politician who was elected to represent the riding of Hamilton Centre in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2019 Canadian federal election, and re-elected in 2021. Early life Green grew up in Hamilton, and received a degree in political science from Acadia University. He later attended McMaster University in Hamilton. Career First elected to the Hamilton City Council in 2014, he led the way for the city to become the first in Ontario to license and regulate payday lending. In 2018, he became the executive director of the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion (HCCI), a non-profit organization that promotes racial equality. Green has stated that the example set by Lincoln Alexander, the first Black Canadian MP and a former Hamilton politician, helped inspire him to get into politics. Matthew Green (1696–1737) was a British poet born of Nonconformist parents. For many years he held a post in the custom house. The few anecdotes that have been preserved show him to have been as witty as his poems would lead one to expect: on one occasion, when the government was about to cut off funds that paid for milk for the custom house cats, Green submitted a petition in their name, winning a reprieve. He died unmarried at his lodging in Nag's Head Court, Gracechurch Street, London, in 1737. His ''Grotto'', a poem on Queen Caroline's grotto at Richmond was printed in 1732; and his chief poem, ''The Spleen'', in 1737 with a preface by his friend Richard Glover. These and some other short poems were printed in Robert Dodsley's collection (1748), and subsequently in various editions of the British poets. The Wainwright Prize is a literary prize awarded annually for the best work of general outdoors, nature and UK-based travel writing. In 2020 it was split into the Wainwright Prize for UK nature writing and the Wainwright Prize for writing on global conservation, with separate longlists and judging panels. Matthew James Green (born ) is an English actor and comedian. Early life and education Green was educated at the University of Cambridge where he was a undergraduate at Christ's College, Cambridge and studied English, graduating in 2000. He was a member of the Footlights alongside Richard Ayoade, John Oliver and John Finnemore, and served as president during his final year, with Finnemore as vice president. Matthew James Emrys Green (born 19 April 1993) is an English former first-class cricketer. Green was born at Wakefield in April 1993. Moving south to Kent as a child, he was educated at The Skinners' School, before going up to St Cuthbert's Society, Durham.
