Matthew Cook
Matthew Cook (born February 7, 1970) is a mathematician and computer scientist who is best known for having proved Stephen Wolfram's conjecture that the Rule 110 cellular automaton is Turing-complete. Biography Cook was born in Morgantown, West Virginia and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. He is an alumnus of the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics program and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois and the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. In 1987, Cook qualified as a member of the six-person US team to the International Mathematical Olympiad and won a bronze medal. In 1990, Cook went to work for Wolfram Research, makers of the computer algebra system Mathematica. He did his doctoral work in Computation and Neural Systems at Caltech from 1999 to 2005. Matt Cook (born July 12, 1984, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) is an American actor known mostly for his roles as Mo McCracken on the Turner Broadcasting System, TBS sitcom ''Clipped (TV series), Clipped'' and most recently as Lowell in the CBS sitcom ''Man with a Plan (TV series), Man with a Plan''. Matt Cook (historian)
Matt Cook is a social and cultural historian specializing in LGBTQ and queer history. Since October 2023, he has served as the Jonathan Cooper Chair of the History of Sexuality at Mansfield College, Oxford University. The appointment makes him the UK's first professor of LGBTQ+ history. Cook received his PhD in history at Queen Mary University of London, then served as a lecturer at Keele University from 2002 to 2005. Matthew Cook (November 10, 1987 – April 4, 2010) was a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. Before the age of 18, Cook played Junior A for the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He had his leg amputated below the knee in 2006, at the age of 18, after unsuccessful chemotherapy when doctors discovered cancer on his left leg. Cook began playing ice sledge hockey in 2007, at a Team Alberta Summer development camp. Cook was a member of the Canada men's national ice sledge hockey team, first making the team in September 2008. He won bronze with them in the 2009 World Championships. Cook currently plays for Tunbridge Wells RFC and the Spain national rugby union team. Personal life Born in Saint Helier, Cook was educated at De La Salle College. Career Cook started to play rugby at the age of 6 for Jersey. In 1998 he moved from Jersey to England and signed for Bedford Blues where he made his debut in the English Premiership on his 21st birthday against Richmond RFC. In that match he scored two tries. This was his only senior game for Bedford Blues. He was later released by Bedford Blues and attempted to find another Premiership club. In 2003, he was signed by Blaydon RFC.
