Matsu Daily
''Matsu Daily'' () is a newspaper owned by the government of the Lienchiang County, Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). It was founded as ''Tengpu Daily'' (), a newspaper published to the military on Tengpu Island, to commemorate the victory of Tengpu Battle. Following the later retreat to Matsu, the newspaper continued to be published. ''Matsu Daily'' started to be published on 3 September 1957. The ownership of the newspaper was transferred from the military to the county government in 1992. The online version was launched in 1999. The Matsu Islands ( or , ; Foochow Romanized: Mā-cū liĕk-dō̤), officially Lienchiang County (, ; Foochow Romanized: Lièng-gŏng-gâing), are an archipelago of 36 islands and islets in the East China Sea governed by the Republic of China (ROC) based in Taiwan, with its location sitting alongside southeastern coast of mainland China. It is the smallest county in the ROC-controlled territories by area and population, as well as one of two counties that were part of the nominal Fujian Province. The Battle of Dengbu Island () was a conflict between the Republic of China Army and People's Liberation Army over Dengbu Island (in the Zhoushan Islands) near mainland China. This conflict occurred from 3 November 1949 to 5 November 1949 and resulted in a Republic of China victory. ''Kinmen Daily News'' (KMDN; ) is a newspaper owned by Kinmen County Government in Kinmen County (Quemoy), Fujian Province, Republic of China (Taiwan). History The predecessor of the Kinmen Daily News was ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' (, Zhōnghuá-zhèngqìbào) from Nancheng, Jiangxi, which retreated to Quemoy following the Chinese civil war. ''Kinmen Daily News'' started publishing on October 31, 1965. From November 7, 1992 onwards, the operation of two newspapers were split. ''Chunghwa Cheng Chi Pao'' was changed into a weekly paper, and is distributed to the military on Quemoy.
