Matric Pass
''Matric Pass'' is a humorous and satirical play penned by G.C. Tongbra. Written in 1964, it is a drama based on a particular societal trend that permeates throughout in the Manipuri society, that of glorifying the certificate holders of twelfth standard(XII). The book ably and clearly depicts the Manipuri society in the mid 20th century. It tries to grasp the prevalent stereotypes and conceptions of that time. The play revolves around a boy, brought up by his widowed mother, who faces a stiff challenge to produce his 10th class pass certificate to authenticate his false claim. The production of which is required not only to get him married but also get a job, while saving his mother's face. The book has been on the syllabus for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Gitchandra Tongbra
Gitchandra Tongbra (6 February 1916 – 3 June 1996), popularly known as G. C. Tongbra, was an Indian satirist, poet, playwright and art academic from Imphal. Born on 6 February 1913 in the Indian state of Manipur, Tongbra was known for his socio-realistic plays such as ''Mani Manou'' (1962), '' Matric Pass'' (1964) and ''Upu Baksi'' (1972). The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1975. Four years later, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his play, ''Ngabongkhao'', in 1978. Sahitya Akademi
The Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of literature in the languages of India. Founded on 12 March 1954, it is supported by, though independent of, the Indian government. Its office is located in Rabindra Bhavan near Mandi House in Delhi. Meitei People

UPSC Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a national competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to higher Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. In simple terms it is referred as UPSC examination, and is conducted in three phases: a preliminary examination consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II also popularly known as Civil Service Aptitude Test or CSAT), and a main examination consisting of nine papers of conventional (essay) type, in which two papers are qualifying and only marks of seven are counted followed by a personality test (interview). A successful candidate sits for 32 hours of examination during the complete process spanning around one year.
