Matlan Marjan
Matlan Marjan is a former professional football player from the state of Sabah, Malaysia. He is renowned for scoring 2 goals against England for Malaysia in a friendly match on 12 June 1991, the only Malaysian to have done so. He has a younger brother, Zainizam Marjan who also played for Sabah FA and Malaysia. Matlan is a Sabahan Bajau from Kota Belud, Sabah. He started his professional career by playing in the Presidents Cup. He made his M-League debut in 1989 season by scoring 5 league goals. In 1990 season, he scored 8 (6 league and 2 FA cup goals) of Sabah FA total 16 goals. In 1991, Matlan earned his first call-up for the national team for a friendly match with Aston Villa. Kota Belud
Kota Belud ( ms, Pekan Kota Belud; ; Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: Kú-tá Mâu-lu̍t) is the capital of the Kota Belud District in the West Coast Division of Sabah, Malaysia. Its population was estimated to be around 8,392 in 2010. It is roughly at the midpoint of the federal highway connecting the state capital, Kota Kinabalu, and Kudat, near the northern tip of Sabah. The town is considered as the unofficial capital and gateway to the heartland of the West Coast Bajau people. Kota Belud's population is divided between the Bajau people, Bajau-Sama, Dusun people, Dusun and Illanun people, Illanun peoples. There is a Malaysian Chinese, Chinese minority, which consists mainly of Hakka people, Hakkas. It is noted for its open air market, or ''tamu'', which is held every Sunday. 1994 Malaysian Football Scandal
Football in Malaysia was rocked by a bribery and corruption scandal in 1994. At that time, more than 100 players and coaches suspected of fixing the results of Malaysia Cup and Premier League matches were detained by the authorities for interrogation. As a result, 58 of them were banned for one to four years by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). A total of 21 players and coaches were fired while several players were banned for life and not allowed to participate in FAM-organised competitions. Many Malaysian fans blamed the scandal in 1994 as a catalyst for the downfall of Malaysian football. In 2016, 22 years after the scandal, a ban on 84 players was lifted by the FAM. Bajau People
The Sama-Bajau include several Austronesian ethnic groups of Maritime Southeast Asia. The name collectively refers to related people who usually call themselves the Sama or Samah (formally A'a Sama, "Sama people"); or are known by the exonym Bajau (, also spelled Badjao, Bajaw, Badjau, Badjaw, Bajo or Bayao). Malaysia FA Cup
The Malaysia FA Cup ( ms, Piala FA) is an annual national knock-out football tournament in Malaysia. The cup was first held in 1990. The competition was previously managed by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), before being transferred to Football Malaysia LLP (MFL) (now known as Malaysian Football League) in the 2016 season. The cup is contested among the clubs from the Malaysia Super League, Malaysia Premier League, Malaysia M3 League and Malaysia M4 League.
