Matija Marinić
Matija Marinić (born 24 December 1990) is a Croatian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. Matija competed in the C1 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing 11th. He is from Zagreb and is coached by 1992 Olympian Stjepan Perestegi. Personal life Matija married Tea Budimir, a physiotherapist, in 2016 and has a child named Marko. He is from Rijeka on the Kvarner Gulf and currently lives in Croatia's capital city, Zagreb. He completes most of his training on the Sava River in his home town but spends a significant proportion of his time at the Tacen Whitewater Course in nearby Ljubljana, making it somewhat of a home course for him and other Croatian slalom canoeists. 2019 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2019 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 40th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 24 to 29 September 2019 in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). The events took place at the Segre Olympic Park which also hosted the canoe slalom events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. La Seu d'Urgell hosted the championships for the third time after previously hosting the event in 1999 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 1999 and 2009 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 2009. As is traditional in a pre-Olympic year, the Championships also doubled as the primary Canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification#Slalom, qualification event for Canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics#Slalom, the 2020 Summer Olympics. Ljubljana
Ljubljana (also known by other historical names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. It is the country's cultural, educational, economic, political and administrative center. The ICF World Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships are an annual international canoeing and kayaking event organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). The Junior World Championships were first held in 1986 and then every two years until 2012. The Under-23 category has been added to the program in 2012. 2010 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships
The 2010 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held 8–12 September 2010 at Tacen Whitewater Course, Slovenia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation for the record-tying third time. It was the 33rd edition. Tacen hosted the event previously in 1955 and 1991 when it was part of Yugoslavia, and joins the following cities that have hosted the event three times: Spittal, Austria (1963, 1965, and 1977); Meran, Italy (1953, 1971, and 1983); Bourg St.-Maurice, France ( 1969, 1987, and 2002); and Augsburg, Germany (1957, 1985, and 2003). Women's single canoe (C1W) events became a medal event after being an exhibition in the previous championships. Ten nations won medals at the championships, the most since the 2005 championships in Penrith. Slovakia was the big winner with five medals including three golds and two silvers. Kanupark Markkleeberg
Kanupark Markkleeberg, built in 2006, is the second of two artificial whitewater canoe/kayak slalom courses in Germany, and the only one powered by pumps. The other German course is the Eiskanal in Augsburg, used in the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Munich. Kanupark Markkleeberg is located on the southeast shore of Markkleeberger See, a lake south of Markkleeberg, a suburb on the south side of Leipzig. A former open-pit coal mine, the lake was flooded in 1999 with groundwater and developed as a water recreation area. The lake is part of the Leipziger Neuseenland, the largest landscape construction project in Europe, which is reclaiming formerly barren industrial and mining sites for recreational use. The 2010 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Markkleeberg, Germany from 4 to 8 August 2010 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kanupark Markkleeberg artificial course. It was the 12th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 8th edition for the Under 23 category. A total of 17 medal events took place. No medals were awarded for the U23 women's C1 individual and team events due to low number of participating countries. The junior women's C1 team event did not take place. 2008 Canoe Slalom World Cup
The 2008 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of seven races in 4 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 21st edition. The series consisted of 4 continental championships (Africa, Oceania, Pan American and Asia) which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the four continental championships. Paddlers outside the top 20 in the C2 event and outside the top 40 in the other 3 events were awarded 2 points for participation. Canoe Slalom World Cup
The ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup is an annual series of races in canoe slalom held under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. It has been held since 1988 in four canoe and kayak disciplines for men and women. The four original disciplines were men's single canoe (C1), men's double canoe (C2), men's kayak (K1) and women's kayak. A women's single canoe discipline (C1) has been added to the world cup in 2010. The men's C2 event was removed from the world cup series in 2018 and it was replaced by the mixed C2 event. 2018 was also the first time that world cup points were awarded for the extreme K1 event. Solkan
Solkan ( or ; it, Salcano, german: link=no, Sollingen or ''Salcano'') is a settlement in the Municipality of Nova Gorica in the Gorizia region of western Slovenia, at the border with Italy. Although it forms a single urban area with the city of Nova Gorica today, it has maintained the status of a separate urban settlement due to its history and the strong local identity of its residents. The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Stephen and belongs to the Diocese of Koper.
