Mathur (subcaste)
Mathur is a subcaste of the Kayastha community in Northern India, with their origins possibly in Mathura. Mathur in South India Sizeable Mathur community is also found in South India, mostly in Hyderabad. They mostly migrated from North India to find placement in administration under Medieval Indian rulers. Shiv Charan Mathur
Shiv Charan Mathur (14 February 1927 – 25 June 2009) was an Indian politician. A leader of the Indian National Congress, he was Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1981 to 1985 and again from 1988 to 1989; later, he was Governor of Assam from 2008 to 2009. Mathur became Chief Minister of Rajasthan on 14 July 1981 and held that post until 23 February 1985. The killing of Raja Man Singh, the then titular head of the erstwhile princely state of Bharatpur caused a political storm, leading to his resignation. Subsequently, he became Chief Minister again from 20 January 1988 to 4 December 1989. In 2003 he was elected as a MLA from Mandalgarh (Bhilwara). Sheila Dhar (1929 – 26 July 2001) was an Indian author and singer of Kirana gharana. She is known for her writings about music and musicians, which included three books. She also taught English literature and language at Delhi University. She was the wife of P. N. Dhar, an economist and an advisor of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After dropping out of Lady Hardinge Medical College, Sheila joined Hindu College and was the top of Delhi University English Honours batch in 1950. Prem Mathur is the first Indian woman commercial pilot and started flying for Deccan Airways. She obtained her commercial pilot's licence in 1947. In 1949, she won the National Air Race. Early life Mathur was born on 17 January 1910. Career Mathur was rejected by eight airlines before she got a job at Deccan Airways in Hyderabad in 1947. She was offered the job at the age of 38 where she became the first Indian woman to fly a commercial plane. She received her license from the Allahabad Flying Club.
