Berkeley, California
Berkeley ( ) is a city on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay in northern Alameda County, California, United States. It is named after the 18th-century Irish bishop and philosopher George Berkeley. A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is '' codex'' (plural, ''codices''). A mathematician is someone who uses an extensive knowledge of mathematics in their work, typically to solve mathematical problems. ''Algebra & Number Theory'' is a peer-reviewed mathematics journal published by the nonprofit organization Mathematical Sciences Publishers. It was launched on January 17, 2007, with the goal of "providing an alternative to the current range of commercial specialty journals in algebra and number theory, an alternative of higher quality and much lower cost." The journal publishes original research articles in algebra and number theory, interpreted broadly, including algebraic geometry and arithmetic geometry, for example. ANT publishes high-quality articles of interest to a broad readership, at a level surpassing all but the top four or five generalist mathematics journals. The ''Annals of Mathematics'' is a mathematical journal published every two months by Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study. History The journal was established as ''The Analyst'' in 1874 and with Joel E. Hendricks as the founding editor-in-chief. It was "intended to afford a medium for the presentation and analysis of any and all questions of interest or importance in pure and applied Mathematics, embracing especially all new and interesting discoveries in theoretical and practical astronomy, mechanical philosophy, and engineering".
