Material World (TV Series)
''Material World'' was a Canadian television sitcom, which aired on CBC Television from 1990 to 1993. In its first season, the show was a conventional sitcom, shot on videotape with a laugh track, but in subsequent seasons the show adopted a single-cam comedy drama format. The show starred Laura Bruneau as Kitty, a Toronto fashion designer. The cast also included Linda Sorenson as Kitty's mother Virginia (Seasons 1-4), Jayne Eastwood as her office assistant Bernice (Seasons 1-3), Chris Potter as her boyfriend Tim (Seasons 1-3), Angela Dohrmann as her downstairs neighbor and then roommate Angela (Seasons 3-4), James Kee as her business partner Martin (Seasons 3-4), and Karen LeBlanc as her store employee Lucy (Season 4). The show's original theme song, "World of Wonder", was composed by series creator Jane Ford and performed by actress and singer Taborah Johnson. Gemini Award
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. In April 2012, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that the Gemini Awards and the Genie Awards would be discontinued and replaced by a new award ceremony dedicated to all forms of Canadian media, including television, film, and digital media, dubbed the "Canadian Screen Awards". Bob Wiseman
Robert Neil "Bob" Wiseman (born 1962) is a film composer, songwriter, author and music teacher. Wiseman discovered or produced many artists including Ron Sexsmith, The Lowest of the Low, Bruce McCulloch of Kids in the Hall, Anhai, and former Canadian member of parliament Andrew Cash. He is a founding member of Blue Rodeo with whom he won 5 Juno Awards. Career In the 1980s Wiseman played at open stages in Toronto where he started producing friends Bob Snider, Kyp Harness, Ron Sexsmith, Sahara Spracklin and Sam Larkin. He joined Blue Rodeo in 1984 and quit in 1992 to follow a solo career. Wiseman's songs often incorporate new musical elements and explicit political themes. Clark Johnson
Clark Johnson (born September 10, 1954), is an American-Canadian actor and director who has worked in both television and film. He is best known for his roles as David Jefferson in ''Night Heat'' (1985–1988), Clark Roberts in ''E.N.G.'' (1989–1994), Meldrick Lewis in '' Homicide: Life on the Street'' (1993–1999) and Augustus Haynes in ''The Wire'' (2008). Early years Johnson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
