Mate Bulić
Mate Bulić (; born 18 February 1957) is a Herzegovinians, Herzegovinian pop music, pop and folk music, folk singer, whose songs are influenced by his native Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 1990s, he has been living and performing from Frankfurt, Germany, where he became known as the "King of the Diaspora". Biography Bulić finished his schooling in Čitluk, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Čitluk and at Mostar, graduating in electrical engineering. However, he decided not to pursue a teaching job in Mostar and moved to Frankfurt where he married and started a family. It was not until later that he began to develop his music career. It was not until the early 1990s that he began recording, and in 1994 his first album was released. He is known for using numerous elements of traditional Croatian music which he incorporates into his music, such as the use of the lijerica and the singing of Ganga (music), ganga. It is a pear-shaped, three-stringed instrument which is played with a bow. It is played to accompany the traditional linđo dance from the region. The lijerica's name comes from the lyra (Greek: λύρα), the bowed instrument of the Byzantine Empire which it probably evolved from. Marko Perković
Marko Perković (; born 27 October 1966) is a Croatian musician who has been the lead singer of the band Thompson since 1991. Perković was born in the village of Čavoglave, SR Croatia, within SFR Yugoslavia, today a part of Croatia. He participated in the Croatian War of Independence (1991–95), during which he started his career with the nationalist song "Bojna Čavoglave". In 2002, he started his first major tour after the release of the '' E, moj narode'' album. Miroslav Škoro (; born 29 July 1962) is a Croatian musician, television host and politician. He is the founder and the first president of the conservative Homeland Movement party, which he established in February 2020 and led until July 2021. As a musician, Škoro is best known for using the traditional Slavonian tamburica instrument in most of his compositions. In the 2007 parliamentary election he was elected member of the Croatian Parliament for the Croatian Democratic Union party and held the office from January 2008 until his resignation in November of the same year. Ganga (music)
Ganga (Cyrillic: Ганга) is a type of singing that originated from rural Dinaric mountain region. It is most commonly found in the regions of Herzegovina and Dalmatia, but it can also be found to an extent in western Bosnia, Lika, Kordun and rural areas of north-west Montenegro. It is characterized by a lone singer singing a single line of lyrics, followed by others joining in, using a vocal style that is best described as a wail. Ganga has historically been closely associated with the region of Herzegovina, where it has developed as a strong sense of cultural identity. To ensure its survival, both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia have taken measures to protect ganga as part of their cultural heritage and encourage its performance.
