Match
A match is a tool for starting a fire. Typically, matches are made of small wooden sticks or stiff paper. One end is coated with a material that can be ignited by friction generated by striking the match against a suitable surface. Wooden matches are packaged in matchboxes, and paper matches are partially cut into rows and stapled into matchbooks. The coated end of a match, known as the match "head", consists of a bead of active ingredients and binder (material), binder, often colored for easier inspection. There are two main types of matches: safety matches, which can be struck only against a specially prepared surface, and strike-anywhere matches, for which any suitably frictional surface can be used. Because of the substance used to coat each match, this makes them non-biodegradable. Match grade frequently refers to quality firearm parts and ammunition that are suitable for a competitive match. Sometimes it also refers to other devices and parts that are made with high precision in mind. Project MATCH
Project MATCH began in 1989 in the United States and was sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). MATCH is an initialism for Matching Alcoholism Treatments to Client Heterogeneity. The project was an 8-year, multi site, $27-million investigation that studied which types of alcoholics respond best to which forms of treatment. MATCH studied whether treatment should be uniform or assigned to patients based on specific needs and characteristics. Samuel Match (January 3, 1923 – January 23, 2010) was an American tennis player. He was born in Los Angeles, California. Match was ranked among the top ten amateur players in the United States in 1948, 1949, and 1950 in both singles and doubles play. ''Lawn Tennis and Badminton'' magazine ranked him as the 12th-best professional player for the year 1955. Early life Match was born in Los Angeles, California, and was Jewish. The Match Europe V USA
The Match Europe v USA was an international two-day outdoor track and field competition between the United States and Europe. It took place 9–10 September 2019 in Minsk, Belarus, three weeks prior to the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, a few days after the conclusion of the 2019 Diamond League and three months after the 2019 European Games. Team Europe won the Match, defeating Team USA by 724½ to 601½. Creation of the Match The match was agreed between European Athletics and USA Track & Field in December 2018 and marked the first international match between the two since the 1960s. The competition followed the successful creation of the Athletics World Cup in 2018, which included the United States and several European nations. The Match (golf)
''The Match'' is a series of exhibition match play golf challenge matches that began in 2018. The event features major professional golfers or other notable athletes facing each other in a head-to-head competition. The format has varied throughout the run of the event, with three of the five entries featuring a best ball format where the professional golfers are paired with a professional American football quarterback or, in one case, a basketball player. In all of the events, sports entertainment elements were included, particularly with the inclusion of sports betting elements in that the contestants wager portions of their prize on side bets during the contest. Turner Sports has televised all five iterations of the event. Since 2020, two iterations of The Match have been held each year, one in the spring and the other on Thanksgiving weekend. The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), also called The Match, is a United States-based private non-profit non-governmental organization created in 1952 to place U.S. medical school students into residency training programs located in United States teaching hospitals. Its mission has since expanded to include the placement of U.S. citizen and non-U.S. citizen international medical school students and graduates into residency and fellowship training programs.
