Eugenijus Maldeikis
Eugenijus Maldeikis (born 27 August 1958, in Anykščiai) is a Lithuanian politician. Maldeikis served twice as Lithuanian Minister of Economy, during Paksas Cabinet I in 1999, and as part of Paksas Cabinet II from 2000 to 2001. His second stint as economics minister overlapped with his tenure on the Eighth Seimas of Lithuania which began in 2000. From 2003, the Seimas appointed Maldeikis a Lithuanian observer to the European Union. After the death of Rolandas Pavilionis, Maldeikis replaced him as a member of the European Parliament from 18 May 2006 until 2009. While serving on the European Parliament, Maldeikis represented the Lithuanian Liberal Democratic Party within the Union for Europe of the Nations parliamentary group. Eugenijus Maldeikis was married to Aušra Maldeikienė, who served on the Seimas from 2016 to 2019, when she was elected to the European Parliament. Aušra Seibutytė-Maldeikienė (born 4 June 1958) is a Lithuanian political economist, politician, lecturer, teacher, publicist and book author. In 2019 she was elected to the European Parliament, having previously sat as a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) since 2016 and Vilnius City Council (2015–2016). Biography After graduating from Antanas Vienuolis Secondary School (currently Vytautas Magnus Gymnasium) in Vilnius in 1976, Aušra Maldeikienė studied in the Faculty of Finance and Credit at the Vilnius University (then named Vilnius Order of the Red Banner of Labour State University of Vincas Kapsukas) and continued the studies in the Economics Faculty at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. She graduated from the latter in 1982, obtaining a qualification of Economist and Lecturer in Political Economy. Seimas
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas), or simply the Seimas (), is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania. The Seimas constitutes the legislative branch of government in Lithuania, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities. Its 141 members are elected for a four-year term, with 71 elected in individual constituencies, and 70 elected in a nationwide vote based on open list proportional representation. A party must receive at least 5%, and a multi-party union at least 7%, of the national vote to qualify for the proportional representation seats. The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats ( lt, Tėvynės sąjunga Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai, TS–LKD), also known colloquially simply as the Conservatives, is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 49 of 141 seats in the Seimas. It is the main centre-right party, with an ideology influenced by liberal conservatism, Christian democracy, nationalism and economic liberalism. Its current leader is Gabrielius Landsbergis, who replaced Andrius Kubilius in 2015. It is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) and the International Democrat Union (IDU).
