Matara railway station is a station in Matara, Sri Lanka. It is owned and operated by Sri Lanka Railways. Matara railway station opened on 17 December 1895 as the terminus of the Coastal Line. Location Matara station is located in the centre of the city, north of the Nilwala River. Matara ( si, මාතර, translit=Māthara, ta, மாத்தறை, translit=Māttaṟai) is a major city in Sri Lanka, on the southern coast of Southern Province. It is the second largest city in Southern Province. Weligama ( si, වැලිගම, ta, வெலிகாமம்) is a town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in Matara District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council.
