Massive! (TV Programme)
''Massive!'' is a short-lived Saturday morning British television programme aimed at a "youth" audience. It ran for two seasons, each of 22 episodes, between 1995 and 1996. A spin-off from the children's Saturday morning show '' Scratchy and Co'', ''Massive!'' was aimed at a slightly older audience, and was presented by Malcolm Jeffries and Denise van Outen. One of the regular guests on the show was the horror-themed magician Simon Drake Simon Drake (born Simon Alexander; 1 March 1957) is an English magician based in London. Scratchy And Co
''Scratchy & Co.'' Was a British children's entertainment show that aired on ITV on Saturday mornings from 6 May 1995 to 25 April 1998. Premise ''Scratchy & Co.'' starred Elliot Henderson-Boyle as "Reg" and Mark Speight as "Scratchy". Other characters included Annabel and a Scottish girl, both played by comedian and impressionist Ronni Ancona. The main gimmick of the show was that the cast wore "solid rubber wigs" and eccentric jackets. A stylistic similarity might be noted between this approach and '' Max Headroom''. This format only lasted for its first series. Later series introduced other characters such as Sedgely the penguin and Fathead the football. From the second series, the show moved away from the original ''Max Headroom''-esque style, into a studio where Scratchy (now minus the rubber wig) sat behind a desk, with Reg behind a window. Simon Drake
Simon Drake (born Simon Alexander; 1 March 1957) is an English magician based in London. He is best known for the television series ''The Secret Cabaret'' made for Britain's Channel 4. Early life Born in London, Drake is the son of a GP. Drake worked as a record plugger at Decca Records when he met Arthur Brown. Brown would become a mentor to Drake as he trained as a magician. Performing career He first came to wider attention in Kate Bush's UK live tour in 1979 for which he co-devised visuals and played seven characters. He has a wide and diverse performing history, performing at Tenjō Sajiki in Japan, to the Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium before Queen Elizabeth II. He advised Nicolas Roeg for the film Castaway, coaching Oliver Reed in sleight of hand, and was magic advisor to Harvey Keitel on FairyTale: A True Story. Sawing A Woman In Half
Sawing a woman in half is a generic name for a number of stage magic tricks in which a person (traditionally a female assistant) is apparently cut or divided into two or more pieces. History There remains a debate about the origin of sawing illusions, with some sources saying a magician named Torrini may have performed the first version in front of Pope Pius VII in 1809. However, it is more likely that the story is a fiction which has its roots in the writings of the famous French magician Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin. In his ''Memoirs'', written in 1858, Robert-Houdin described a sawing illusion performed by a magician named Torrini. Modern magic inventor and historian Jim Steinmeyer has concluded that there was probably no real Torrini and the story was merely a way for Robert-Houdin to play with ideas. Independent Television Commission
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) licensed and regulated commercial television services in the United Kingdom (except S4C in Wales) between 1 January 1991 and 28 December 2003.
