Massimo Florioli
Massimo Florioli (born 14 February 1972) is an Italian professional golfer. He represented Italy in the 1997 and 1998 World Cup. In the 1998 tournament Florioli and his teammate, Costantino Rocca, finished second, two strokes behind England, recording the best performance by an Italian pair in the event at that time. Florioli played on the European Tour from 1997 to 2001. He didn't win a European Tour event but was second in the 1998 Peugeot Open de France and the 1999 Estoril Open. He was joint third in the 1998 Benson & Hedges International Open winning €59,108. European Tour
The European Tour (currently known as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons), legally the PGA European Tour is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged fifty or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men’s professional golf in Europe. The tour's headquarters are at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. 1997 World Cup Of Golf
The 1997 World Cup of Golf took place 20–23 November at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 43rd World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. Individuals also competed for the International Trophy. The prize money totaled $1,500,000 with $400,000 going to the winning pair and $100,000 to the top individual. The Irish team of Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley won by five strokes over the Scottish team of Colin Montgomerie and Raymond Russell. The 1991 European Amateur Team Championship took place 26–30 June at Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, Spain. It was the 17th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Venue The hosting club was established in 1895 as a polo club. Its first 18-hole golf course, located in the northwest of Madrid, Spain, in the district of Moncloa, 5 kilometres from the city center, designed by Harry Colt, opened in 1914. Tom Simpson designed a new 9-hole course in the 1940s and John Harris designed another nine holes in 1968. The two 18-hole courses at Puerta de Hierro had previously hosted the Open de España and Madrid Open on the European Tour and the 1970 Eisenhower Trophy. The European Amateur Team Championship is a European amateur team golf championship for men organised by the European Golf Association which was introduced in 1959. The championship was played in odd-numbered years from 1959 to 2007 and has been played annually since 2008 (with the exception of 2012). 1990 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1990 Eisenhower Trophy took place 25 to 28 October at the Christchurch Golf Club near Christchurch, New Zealand. It was the 17th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 33 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Sweden won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time, finishing 13 strokes ahead of the joint silver medalists, New Zealand and United States with Canada, France and Japan tied for fourth place. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. From 2002 the teams have been three players with two counting. The 2004, 2010 and 2012 championships were reduced to 54 holes because of bad weather.
