Maryvale High School is part of the Phoenix Union High School District. The school opened in 1963 and is located at 3415 North 59th Avenue northwest of downtown Phoenix. The first graduating class was in 1964. Maryvale’s enrollment is 2,861 students. The school predominantly serves students from partner elementary districts Cartwright and Isaac. Maryvale is a comprehensive high school known for maintaining the best attendance and graduation rate (91.4%) in the district. John Anthony Moraga (born March 20, 1984) is an American professional boxer and mixed martial artist who competes as a flyweight and featherweight in MMA and boxing, respectively. Phillippi Dwain Sparks (born April 15, 1969) is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League. Sparks graduated from Maryvale High School in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1987. He attended and played football for Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona, from 1987 through 1989. Sparks played a key role on Glendale Community College's 1988 National Junior College Athletic Association national championship football team.
