Maryland Terrapins Field Hockey
The Maryland Terrapins field hockey team is the intercollegiate field hockey program representing the University of Maryland. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), although it was a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) before 2014. The Maryland field hockey team plays its home games at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on the university campus in College Park, Maryland. The Terrapins are among the most accomplished field hockey programs in the country, and they have won a total of eight NCAA national championships and 16 conference championships (10 in the ACC and 6 in the Big Ten). National Collegiate Athletics Association
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Keli Smith Puzo (born January 25, 1979) is an American field hockey player. Smith Puzo is a two-time Olympian who competed in both the Beijing and London Olympic Games. At the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed for the United States women's national field hockey team in the women's event. Carla Tagliente (born January 2, 1979 in Marathon, New York) is a former field hockey striker from the United States, who earned a total number of 78 caps for the Women's National Team, in which she scored five goals. The former student of the University of Maryland, where she played for the Terrapins, scored her first international goal in her first international appearance, versus South Korea (1-0) at the 1997 Champions Trophy in Berlin, Germany. Christine ("Chris") DeBow (born October 19, 1976 in Media, Pennsylvania) is a former field hockey defender from the United States, who earned a total number of 53 caps for the Women's National Team. The former student of the University of Maryland, where she played for the Terrapins, earned the bronze medal at the 1997 Junior Pan American Championships. Katie Kauffman
Katie Kauffman Beach (born September 26, 1974, in Reading, Pennsylvania) is a field hockey player and coach. She played for the United States Women's National Team in 180 international games, including the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She was inducted into the United States Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014. Beach went to college at the University of Maryland, where she studied marketing and played for the Terrapins, starting the year they won the NCAA championship in 1993. She was a two-time All-American, and two-time U.S. Field Hockey Athlete of the Year. In 2004, she retired from the national team to coach at Columbia University, where she served for four years as head coach. In 2009, she moved to Chicago and became the director and co-owner of Windy City Field Hockey, with husband Keith Beach.
