Maryland Route 109
Maryland Route 109 (MD 109) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. The highway runs from MD 107 in Poolesville north to MD 355 in Hyattstown. MD 109 connects the northwestern Montgomery County communities of Poolesville, Beallsville, Barnesville, and Hyattstown with each other and with Interstate 270 (I-270). The highway was built between Beallsville and Barnesville by 1910. MD 109 was extended to Poolesville in the early 1920s and to Comus in the late 1920s. The route was extended north through its early 1950s interchange with I-270 to Hyattstown in the late 1950s. Route description MD 109 begins at the intersection of Elgin Road and Fisher Avenue in the town of Poolesville. The intersection also serves as the western terminus of MD 107, which heads east along Fisher Avenue through the Poolesville Historic District. Dowden's Luck
Dowden's Luck is a historic house located at Poolesville, Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The main house is a -story, late Federal-style frame house. Major additions were made in 1855 and 1910. Also on the property are a one-story gable-roofed stone slave quarters, a one-story gable-roofed brick smokehouse, a stone spring house, and the foundations of two barns, all built during the 1824-1850 plantation period. An overgrown terraced garden in its original configuration as constructed around 1855 stands to the west of the house. Macadam is a type of road construction, pioneered by Scottish engineer John Loudon McAdam around 1820, in which crushed stone is placed in shallow, convex layers and compacted thoroughly. A binding layer of stone dust (crushed stone from the original material) may form; it may also, after rolling, be covered with a cement or bituminous binder to keep dust and stones together. The method simplified what had been considered state-of-the-art at that point. Maryland Route 75 (MD 75) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Green Valley Road, the state highway runs from MD 355 near Hyattstown north to MD 31 in New Windsor. MD 75 serves as the main north–south highway of eastern Frederick County, where it connects Hyattstown with New Market, Libertytown, Johnsville, and the Carroll County town of Union Bridge. The first sections of MD 75 were constructed around New Windsor and between Green Valley and New London in the early 1910s. The latter highway was extended south to Green Valley in the late 1910s. Sugarloaf Mountain (Maryland)
Sugarloaf Mountain is a small (1,283 foot; 391 m) mountain and park about 10 miles (16 km) south of Frederick, Maryland, USA. The closest village is Barnesville, located just over one mile from the foot of the mountain. The peak of this relatively low mountain is approximately 800 feet (244 m) higher than the surrounding farmland. It is visible from many parts of northern Montgomery County and southern Frederick County, notably from I-270 north of the town of Germantown. The Brunswick Line is a MARC commuter rail line between Washington, D.C., and Martinsburg, West Virginia, with a branch to Frederick, Maryland. It primarily serves the northern and western suburbs of Washington. Barnesville Station
Barnesville is an active commuter railroad train station in Barnesville, Montgomery County, Maryland. Located on Beallsville Road ( Route 109), Barnesville station services trains of MARC Train's Brunswick Line between Union Station in Washington D.C. and Martinsburg, West Virginia.
