Maryland Legislative District 30
Maryland's Legislative District 30 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, it is home to Maryland's capital; the city of Annapolis. Until the 2010 census and subsequent redistricting, voters in this district selected three Delegates every four years to represent them in the Maryland House of Delegates. Starting with the 2014 election, the district was divided into sub-districts 30A and 30B. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 124,623, of whom 99,393 (79.8%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 88,997 (71.4%) White, 14,596 (11.7%) African American, 566 (0.5%) Native American, 2,581 (2.1%) Asian, 57 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 8,570 (6.9%) from some other race, and 9,265 (7.4%) from two or more races. Anne Arundel County, Maryland
Anne Arundel County (; ), also notated as AA or A.A. County, is located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 United States census, its population was 588,261, an increase of just under 10% since 2010. Its county seat is Annapolis, which is also the capital of the state. The county is named for Lady Anne Arundell (c. 1615/1616–1649), a member of the ancient family of Arundells in Cornwall, England, and the wife of Cecilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore (1605–1675), founder and first lord proprietor of the colony Province of Maryland. Anthony McConkey
Tony McConkey (born November 21, 1963) is a former elected official in the Maryland House of Delegates. He was first elected in 2002, taking the seat of former Delegate Janet Greenip, who ran for a State Senate seat. He served in District 33, which is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He lost a bid for re-election in 2018 to Democratic challenger Heather Bagnall. Herb McMillan
Herbert H. McMillan (born May 30, 1958) is a Republican former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 30 in Anne Arundel County, MD from 2003 to 2007 and from 2011 to 2019. He served alongside Democrat Michael E. Busch and Republican Ron George. In 2006 he challenged District 30 Senator John Astle, a Democrat, who defeated him 53 percent to 47 percent. Ron George
Ronald Alan George (born August 30, 1953) is a former Republican member of the Maryland House of Delegates. From January 2007 to January 2015 he represented District 30 in the Maryland General Assembly located within Anne Arundel County. He shared this district with Democratic member House Speaker Michael E. Busch and Republican Herbert H. McMillan. Redistricting after 2010 placed George in District 33. He sought the Republican nomination for Governor of Maryland in 2014, but finished fourth in the primary. The Maryland Senate, sometimes referred to as the Maryland State Senate, is the upper house of the General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maryland.
