Mary Norwood (tennis)
Mary Norwood Rompf (born May 8, 1966) is an American former professional tennis player. Norwood, who was born and raised in Oklahoma, is the daughter of dermatologist O'Tar Norwood, who was considered a pioneer in the field of hair transplants. She never dropped a set during her high school tennis career and played collegiate tennis for the USC Trojans from 1985 to 1988. A two-time doubles All-American, Norwood was a member of USC's 1985 NCAA championship winning team, with the final against the Miami Hurricanes held on her home court in Oklahoma City. Following her graduation from USC, Norwood competed on the professional tour and was ranked in the world's top 100 for doubles, peaking at 98 in 1989. The ''Sarasota Herald-Tribune'' is a daily newspaper, located in Sarasota, Florida, founded in 1925 as the ''Sarasota Herald''. History The newspaper was owned by The New York Times Company from 1982 to 2012. It was then owned by Halifax Media Group from 2012 to 2015, when New Media Investment Group acquired Halifax. Rosa Bielsa-Hierro (born 9 January 1966) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. Biography Bielsa competed in two Fed Cup, Federation Cup ties for Spain, both in the 1985 Federation Cup (tennis), 1985 edition, as the doubles partner of Ana Almansa. The pair won the deciding doubles rubber against Hong Kong Fed Cup team, Hong Kong, to advance to a second round fixture against Australia Fed Cup team, Australia, which they and their teammates lost 0–3. At the 1989 French Open she lost in the qualifying draw for the singles but featured in the main draw of the women's doubles, with Soviet player Eugenia Maniokova. Bielsa won two medals for Spain at the 1991 Summer Universiade in Sheffield, a bronze in the singles and a bronze in the mixed doubles. Janet Souto-Garcia (born 22 November 1967) is a former professional tennis player from Spain. Biography Souto, who comes from Galicia but is Venezuelan by birth, began playing on the professional tour in the late 1980s. Often partnering her sister Ninoska, the pair made the doubles semi-finals of the 1988 Spanish Open. In 1992 she featured in the main draw of the women's doubles at three grand slam tournaments, all with Ana Segura as her partner. The Internazionali Femminili di Palermo, also known as the Palermo Ladies Open, is a women's tennis tournament in Palermo, Italy that is played on outdoor clay courts at the Country Time Club. The first two editions were part of the Satellite Circuit, but since 1990 it has been part of the WTA Tour. The tournament was categorized as either a WTA Tier IV or Tier V event from 1990 to 2008 and became an International Tournament in 2009. In 2014, the license for the event was sold to Kuala Lumpur's Malaysian Open for 6 years (contract for 3 years with an option for additional three). The tournament returned to Palermo in 2019 as a WTA International event, replacing Jiangxi International Women's Tennis Open which was moved to the autumn calendar as part of the China Open series.
