Mary Moran (camogie)
Mary Moran, ga, Máire Ní Mhóráin, was the 18th president of the Camogie Association, elected at the 1973 Congress in the Blarney Hotel in a run-off against Mary Lynch of Monaghan. Family and early life A native of Limerick city, she is the daughter of John and Frances Moran, fourth of a family of six. When she moved to Cork at the age of 11, she attended St Aloysius School (a camogie nursery in those days) and was introduced to game for the first time. Camogie Moran won Cork Colleges senior and junior championship medals with St Aloysius and played with Cork colleges against Dublin. She played Ashbourne Cup with UCC, and won Cork senior and junior championship medals with Old Aloysius Camogie Club, Aloysians (confined to past and present pupils of St Aloysius School). On being appointed to AIB, Enniscorthy she played with Kilcarry and won a Carlow County Championship medal. Mary Fennelly
Mary Fennelly (Máire Ní Fhionnalaigh) was the 19th president of the Camogie Association. Family background She is first cousin of the Fennelly family from Ballyhale, of whose seven brothers four played together to win the 1989 Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship and four (Kevin, Seán, Ger and Liam) played together in the All Ireland hurling final of 1987. Career She won three All Ireland medals with Kilkenny in 1974, 1976 (when she captained the team), and 1977 (when she won the Kilkenny camogie sports star award) and All Ireland club medals with St Paul's. She won colleges medals with Presentation Secondary School, Kilkenny in the first two years of the competition, 1968 and 1969. In the early 1970s, while in Dublin, she played with Naomh Aoife. She retired as a player in 1980. All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship is a competition for third-tier county teams in the women's field sport of camogie and for second-string teams of first-tier counties. In accordance with the practice in GAA competitions the term junior applies to the level of competition rather than the age group. The 2021 championship was contested by Armagh, Cavan, Roscommon and the second teams of Antrim, Clare, Down, Limerick, Kildare, Waterford and Wexford. History The competition was established in 1969 for the New Ireland Cup. The name was changed to the Kay Mills Cup in honour of former player Kathleen Mills in 2010. In 2006 the second teams of the first-tier camogie counties were removed from the competition. National Camogie League
The National Camogie League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Very Ireland Camogie Leagues, is a competition in the Irish team sport of camogie, played exclusively by women. The competition is held in three divisions graded by ability. It was first played in 1976 for a trophy donated by Allied Irish Banks when Tipperary beat Wexford in a replayed final. Division Two (originally the National Junior League) was inaugurated in 1979 and won by Kildare. The first two National League competitions started in the autumn and finished in the spring of 1976–77 and 1977–78 respectively. Since then the competition has been completed within the calendar year. The 2001 final was not played until October because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in the year. The All-Ireland Minor Camogie Championship is a competition for under-18 teams in the women's field sport of camogie. Counties compete for the Síghle Nic an Ultaigh Cup. There are graded competitions at Minor B and Minor C level. History The competition was established in 1974 for under-16 teams. In 2006 the age limit was raised from 16 to 18 and a separate under-16 championship established. Championships are also held at Minor B and Minor C level.
