Mary L. Smith
Mary L. Smith (born August 28, 1962) is an American lawyer and former principal deputy director and acting director of the Indian Health Services from October 2015 to February 2017. Previously she was general counsel for the Illinois Department of Insurance. From 2009 until August 2010, she had been a presidential nominee to be the Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice. However, she was never confirmed by the Senate, and the White House in 2010 decided not to renominate her to the post. In 2023, she was sworn in as president of the American Bar Association. Streeterville is a neighborhood in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois, United States, north of the Chicago River. It is bounded by the river on the south, the Magnificent Mile portion of Michigan Avenue on the west, and Lake Michigan on the north and east, according to most sources, although the City of Chicago only recognizes a small portion of this region as Streeterville.
