Mary Jackman
Mary Jackman (; 30 April 1943 – 30 May 2022) was an Irish Fine Gael politician. She was a senator from 1989 to 1992 and again from 1997 to 2002. Biography Jackman was from Castletroy in County Limerick. A teacher by profession, she spent her entire career at Presentation College, Limerick. A member of Limerick County Council for the Castleconnell local electoral area from 1985 to 2014, she was the first woman Cathaoirleach (chair) of Limerick County Council. Jackman has unsuccessfully contested four general elections in the Limerick East constituency (1989, 1992, 1997, and 2002), falling just 305 votes short of winning seat at the 1997 general election. She was also defeated at the Limerick East by-election in March 1998, and did not stand at the 2007 general election. After her 1989 defeat, she was elected to the 19th Seanad on the Labour Panel. 2007 Irish General Election
The 2007 Irish general election took place on Thursday, 24 May after the dissolution of the 29th Dáil by the President on 30 April, at the request of the Taoiseach. The general election took place in 43 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament, with a revision of constituencies since the last election under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2005. While Fine Gael gained 20 seats, Fianna Fáil remained the largest party. The election was considered a success for Fianna Fáil; however, Fianna Fáil's junior coalition partners in the 29th Dáil, the Progressive Democrats, lost six of their eight seats. The Industrial and Commercial Panel ( ga, An Rolla Tionscail Agus Tráchtála) is one of five vocational panels which together elect 43 of the 60 members of Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (the legislature of Ireland). The Industrial and Commercial Panel elects nine senators. Election Article 18 of the Constitution of Ireland provides that 43 of the 60 senators are to be elected from five vocational panels. The Industrial and Commercial Panel is defined in Article 18.7.1º(v) as "Industry and Commerce, including banking, finance, accountancy, engineering and architecture".
