Mary Freeman (swimmer)
Mary Gray Freeman (born October 30, 1933), also known by her former married name Mary Kelly, is an American former competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. Freeman competed in the preliminary heats of the women's 100-meter backstroke and recorded a time of 1:18.0. Freeman married Olympic rowing bronze medalist John B. Kelly Jr., the brother of movie actress Grace Kelly, in 1954. Freeman and Kelly had six children; they divorced in 1980. She later married professor Alan Spitzer. Mary Kelly went on to become a renowned swimming coach. In the mid-1950s, she established one of the first all-women swim teams in the country, which she named Vesper Boat Club. That name was the name of the rowing team in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for which her husband Jack was competing. Nina Harmer
Nina Adams Harmer (born December 11, 1945), also known by her married name Nina Thompson, is an American former competition swimmer and Pan American Games gold medalist. The International Swimming Hall of Fame and Museum (ISHOF) is a history museum and hall of fame, located at One Hall of Fame Drive, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States, operated by private interests and serving as the central point for the study of the history of swimming in the United States and around the world. Martha Irene Randall (born June 12, 1948) is an American former competition swimmer, Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder. Early swimming Randall was Coached by Mary Freeman at Philadelphia's Vespar Boat Club Swim team, where she did much of her early training. Susan Elizabeth Doerr (January 13, 1945February 18, 1972) was an American former competition swimmer, 1960 Olympic competitor, and a 1961 world record-holder in the 100-meter butterfly. Early swimming Susan was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert E. Doerr Jr. in Brwyn Mawr, Pennsylvania on January 13, 1945. She began her career in age group swimming in Philadelphia. Backstroke
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. Eleanor Suzanne Daniel (born June 11, 1950), also known by her married name Ellie Drye, is an American former competition swimmer, four-time Olympic medalist, and former world record-holder.
