Mary Ann Sampson is an American artist living and working in Ragland, Alabama. Sampson is a Artist's books, book artist, specializing in Miniature (illuminated manuscript), miniatures and Street literature, broadsides most of which are ''unique'' or ''one-of-a-kinds.'' She explores the book as a means of expressing visual ideas that stem from recollections of personal events and experiences that have been derived from living in her rural environment of Alabama. Sampson received her Master in Books Arts from the University of Alabama. Sampson founded the ''OEOCO PRESS'' (One-Eye Opera Company), whose mission is to make limited edition, letterpress books, bookbinding and unique (one-of-a-kind) books. Ragland is a town in St. Clair County, Alabama, United States southeast of Ashville. It incorporated in 1899. At the 2010 census the population was 1,639, down from 1,918 in 2000. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Combined Statistical Area. 1994 Tornado An F4 tornado struck from the southwest on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1994 at 10:55 a.m. At 11:27 a.m., the National Weather Service of Birmingham issued a tornado warning for northern Calhoun, southeastern Etowah, and southern Cherokee counties.
