Mary-Anne Monckton
Mary-Anne Monckton (born 16 November 1994) is an Australian artistic gymnast. She won two silver medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and has represented Australia at three world championships (2011, 2014, 2015). In 2020, she was the first of several former gymnasts to speak out about a "toxic" culture within the country's elite programme. Personal life Monckton first took up gymnastics because her cousin Melissa did it. At first, she didn't like the sport, but her cousin was persistent in taking her because she had too much energy. She has said she admires Catalina Ponor because of her "amazing work ethic". Her best apparatus is the balance beam, and her favourite skill on the beam is the aerial cartwheel. She said being selected for the 2014 Commonwealth Games was her best moment in her gymnastics career so far. Belmont, New South Wales
Belmont is a suburb in Greater Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located from Newcastle's central business district on the eastern side of Lake Macquarie and is part of the City of Lake Macquarie council. Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The balance beam is only performed competitively by female gymnasts. Beams are usually covered with leather-like material and are only four inches wide. 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 7–16, 2011, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
