Marwan Hamed
Marwan Hamed ( ar, مروان حامد; born May 29, 1977) is a young Egyptian film director.Adil M. Asgarov, 'Hamed, Marwan (1977–)', Biographical Encyclopedia of the Modern Middle East and North Africa'. He is the son of author Wahid Hamed and journalist Zeinab Sweidan. His debut was a short film entitled ''Li Li'' followed by a major feature film entitled'' The Yacoubian Building (film), The Yacoubian Building ''based on a novel by Alaa Al Aswany and starring Adel Emam. He has taken part in direction of the series ''Lahzat Harija'' and has filmed a music video for Amr Diab. ''The Yacoubian Building'' was followed by ''Ibrahim Labyad'' starring Ahmed El-Sakka and Hend Sabry and was released in 2009. Then he released The Blue Elephant starring actor Karim Abdel Aziz and Khaled Al Sawy, and is based on Ahmed Mourad's novel of the same name. Wahid Hamed
Wahid Hamed ( ar, وحيد حامد; 1 July 1944 – 2 January 2021) was an Egyptian screenwriter. Personal life Hamed was born in Beni Quraysh, Sharqia Governorate. He moved to Cairo in 1963 to study in the Department of Sociology at Cairo University. He was married to Zeinab Sweidan, with whom he had his son, Marwan. Work as a screenwriter According to ''Egypt Independent''; "Hamed was concerned with Egyptian society and important issues within the country, and was able to eloquently narrate Egypt’s conditions, dreams, and history." He worked with a number of directors, including Samir Seif, Sherif Arafa and Atef El-Tayeb. He won several awards for his work. In 2020, he won the Golden Pyramid Appreciation Award from the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival for Lifetime Achievement. The Yacoubian Building (film)
''The Yacoubian Building'' ( ar, عمارة يعقوبيان, transliterated: ''ʿImārat Yaʿqūbīān'' or ''Omaret Yakobean'') is a 2006 Egyptian film based on the novel of the same title by author Alaa Al Aswany. It has been reported to be the highest-budgeted film in the history of Egyptian cinema. Background Like the novel ostensibly set in 1990 at about the time of the first Gulf War, the film is a scathing portrayal of modern Egyptian society since the coup d'état of 1952. The setting is downtown Cairo, with the titular apartment building (which actually exists) serving as both a metaphor for contemporary Egypt and a unifying location in which most of the primary characters either live or work and in which much of the action takes place. Alaa Al Aswany
Alaa Al Aswany ( ar, علاء الأسواني, ; born 26 May 1957) is an Egyptian writer, novelist, and a founding member of the political movement Kefaya. Early life and career Al Aswany was born on 26 May 1957 in Cairo. His mother, Zainab, came from an aristocratic family; her uncle was a Pasha and Minister of Education before the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. His father, Abbas Al Aswany, was from Aswan (in Lower Nubia) and was a lawyer and writer who "is remembered as being a captivating and charismatic speaker with a broad following and loyalty within a cross-section of the Egyptian revolutionary intelligentsia". ''The Blue Elephant'' ( arz, الفيل الأزرق, Al Fil Al Azraq) is a 2014 Egyptian drama/ horror/mystery film produced and directed by Marwan Hamed in Cairo, Egypt. The story was originally translated into film from a 2012 Arabic novel written by the famous Egyptian writer Ahmed Mourad, and starring Egyptian actors Karim Abdel Aziz, Khaled El Sawy and Nelly Karim. The film talks about a man called Yehia, who unwillingly comes out of isolation after five years, to resume his service in El-Abbaseya psychiatric hospital, where he is in charge of evaluating the mental health of the criminally insane. It was followed by a sequel ''The Blue Elephant 2'' ( ar, 2 الفيل الأزرق, translit. Al Fil Al Azraq 2) released in 2019.
