Al-Safa And Al-Marwah
Safa and Marwa ( ar, ٱلصَّفَا وَٱلْمَرْوَة, Aṣ-Ṣafā wal-Marwah) are two small hills, connected to the larger Abu Qubais and Qaiqan mountains, respectively, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, now made part of the Masjid al-Haram. Muslims travel back and forth between them seven times in what is known as Sa'ee ( ar, سَعِي, lit=seeking/searching or walking, translit=sa'iy) ritual pilgrimages of '' Ḥajj'' and ''Umrah''. Muslims walk between the two mountains (called ''Sa'ee''), which they believe was made a ritual as a tribute to Hajar's search for water in the area when she ran out of provisions after Ibrahim left her in the valley upon Allah's command. The space between the two mountains in which the pilgrims walk is called ''al-Mas'aa''. The Marwa Tendubhata Thermal Power Station (by BHEL), is a coal-fired power station near Marwa village in Janjgir–Champa district, Chhattisgarh, India. The power station is owned by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company, state-owned generation utility. The ''mirwās'' or ''marwas'' ( ar, مرواس), plural ''marāwīs'' ( ar, مراويس) is a small double-sided, high-pithced hand drum originally from the Middle East. It is a popular instrument in the Arab States of the Persian Gulf, used in '' sawt'' and ''fijiri'' music. It is also common in Kuwait and Yemen. Hadhrami migrants from Yemen took the instrument to Muslim Southeast Asia (especially Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei), where it is used in ''Zapin'' and '' Gambus'' musical genres. A similar drum of this area is the ''Gendang''. The Marwas drums used to accompany '' Gambus'' music in ''Lampung'', ''Indonesia'' often consist of four sizes with two skins of a diameter between 12-20 centimetres. The skins are commonly made from goatskin and formerly black monkey skin and are laced with leather or plastic to a jackfruit-wood cylindrical body of around 8 to 10 centimetres in height. "Marwa Blues" is an instrumental by English rock musician George Harrison. It was released on his final studio album, '' Brainwashed'', in November 2002, a year after his death, and subsequently on a single as the B-side of "Any Road". The song is a slide guitar instrumental and named after Raga Marwa, an Indian classical raga traditionally played at sunset. "Marwa Blues" won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Along with "Any Road" and the ''Brainwashed'' track "Rising Sun", it was also included on the 2009 compilation album '' Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison''. Raga Marwa was one of Harrison's favourite ragas, having become familiar to him through interpretations by Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan.
