Martynas Alekna (born 25 August 2000) is a Lithuanian discus thrower. Early life He is the son of double Olympic discus throw champion Virgilijus Alekna and older brother of Mykolas Alekna. Aged 15 years-old, he won the Lithuanian U18 national championships in the discus. Career 2023 He had a personal best distance of 67.23 in Jelgava, Latvia in June 2023. He finished in second place at the Lithuanian national championships in July 2023. He subsequently competed for Lithuania at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023, throwing best of 62.57 metres. 2024 He finished second at the Canaries International in Tenerife in May 2024 with a distance of 66.59 metres. Virgilijus Alekna
Virgilijus Alekna (; 13 February 1972) is a Lithuanian former discus thrower and politician. He won medals at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics, including two golds. After retiring from athletics, Alekna was elected to the national parliament, the Seimas, in 2016. He has 3 children - Martynas Alekna, Mykolas Alekna and Gabrielė Aleknaite. Athletics career Alekna has won two gold medals in the Summer Olympics in the discus throw, the first was in 2000 and the second in 2004. He also won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. In 2007, he was appointed as UNESCO Champion for Sport. Mykolas Alekna
Mykolas Alekna (born 28 September 2002) is a Lithuanian athlete who specializes in the discus throw. He is the current world record holder of the event with 74.35 metres (243 ft 11 in) which will be subject to ratification. At the age of 19, he won the silver medal at the 2022 World Championships, becoming the youngest world discus medallist in history. Alekna was then the youngest ever winner in his discipline at the 2022 European Championships, setting the competition record in the process.
