Martyn Park
Martyn Park is an Australian writer, director, and Health & Training Coach. Early life Born in England, Park's family immigrated to Australia as Ten Pound Poms when he was six years old. After a short stint living in a Nissen hut at the Wacol Hostel in Wacol, Queensland, they moved to Cronulla Beach in New South Wales. He left school at fifteen and worked at the local Cronulla Cinema as an assistant projectionist. A year later he joined Hoyts Theatres in the city of Sydney, where he completed his apprenticeship. Working the suburban relief roster, he screened a double feature at a different cinema every night, ten different movies per week. He credits this with creating his passion for cinema. Ten Pound Poms (or Ten Pound tourists) is a colloquial term used in Australia and New Zealand to describe British citizens who migrated to Australia and New Zealand after the Second World War. The Government of Australia initiated the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme in 1945, and the Government of New Zealand initiated a similar scheme in July 1947. The Commonwealth arranged for assisted passage to Australia on chartered ships and aircraft. The migrants were called Ten Pound Poms due to the charge of £10 in processing fees to migrate to Australia. Bondi Pavilion
The Bondi Surf Pavilion in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW), Australia, is an outstanding beach cultural icon of Australia, together with the beach, park and surf lifesaving club. The structure is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register 01786 as well as by Waverley Council. The building has also been listed by the Heritage Council. According to the National Trust it "has come to represent the Australian culture of beach bathing and outdoors living". The pavilion was constructed in 1928–29, and is managed by Waverley Council.
