Marty Zendejas
Martin Zendejas (November 2, 1964 – December 19, 2018) was a Mexican placekicker in the Arena Football League (AFL) for the Los Angeles Cobras. He played college football at the University of Nevada. Early years Zendejas, was born in Zacapu, Michoacan. His parents moved the family to Chino, California. He attended Ramona Junior High School, before transferring to Don Antonio Lugo High School. College career Zendejas followed his older brother Tony and accepted a football scholarship from the University of Nevada. He was named a starter at placekicker as a freshman, after his brother graduated. He made 22 out of 27 field goals and 35 out of 37 extra points. As a sophomore, he converted 19 out of 24 field goals, 50 out of 54 extra points, while setting a conference and school single-season record with 107 points. Placekicker
Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. George Blanda, Lou Groza, Frank Gifford and Paul Hornung are prominent examples of players who were stars at other positions as well as being known for their kicking abilities. Maximmillian Javier Zendejas (born September 2, 1963) is a Mexican former placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers. He played college football at the University of Arizona. Early years Zendejas, was born in Curimeo, Mexico as one of nine children. Luis Fernando Zendejas (born October 22, 1961) is a Mexican former American football placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Joaquin Zendejas Jr. (born January 14, 1960) is a Mexican former placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for the New England Patriots. He played college football at the University of La Verne. Early years Zendejas, was born in Curimeo, Mexico as part of nine children. His parents moved the family to Chino, California. He attended Don Antonio Lugo High School, where he played as a forward in soccer. Zendejas accepted a soccer scholarship from Division III University of La Verne. He began to play football as a junior, kicking a school-record 55-yard field goal against Pomona College, while making 22 out of 35 field goal attempts during the season. Nicholas Mike-Mayer (MICK-uh-myur) (born March 1, 1950) is a former American football placekicker in the National Football League from 1973– 1982 for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Buffalo Bills. He made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year. He later played with the San Antonio Gunslingers of the United States Football League. His brother Steve Mike-Mayer also played in the NFL. In sports, the practice squad, also called the taxi squad or practice roster, is a group of players signed by a team but not part of their main roster. Frequently used in gridiron football, they serve as extra players during the team's practices, often as part of the scout team by emulating an upcoming opponent's play style.
