Marty Bystrom
} Martin Eugene Bystrom (born July 26, 1958), is an American former professional baseball pitcher, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees in Major League Baseball from 1980–1985. Bystrom attended Miami Killian Senior High School and then Miami Dade Community College where he was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent in December 1976. At age 22, as a Major League Baseball rosters#September call-ups, September call-up, he made his MLB debut on September 7, 1980; Bystrom went on to win 5 games (including a complete-game shutout) that September, en route to Philadelphia’s National League East Division championship. Until Dylan Lee's start for the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 World Series, Bystrom set a record in 1980 for fewest regular season appearances (6) before making a start in a World Series. 1994–95 Major League Baseball Strike
The 1994–95 Major League Baseball strike was the eighth and longest work stoppage in baseball history, as well as the fourth in-season work stoppage in 22 years. The strike began on August 12, 1994, and resulted in the remainder of that season, including the postseason and the World Series, being canceled. This was the first time in ninety years, since 1904, that a World Series was not played. The strike was suspended on April 2, 1995, after 232 days, making it the longest such stoppage in MLB history and the longest work stoppage in major league professional sports at the time (breaking the record set by the 1981 strike, also in MLB).
