Marty Brown (baseball)
Marty Leo Brown (born January 23, 1963) is an American former professional baseball player and Manager (baseball), manager. He is a former Major League Baseball third baseman who played for the Cincinnati Reds (1988–89) and Baltimore Orioles (1990). He is also the former manager of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Japan's Central League, where he played for three seasons from 1992 to 1994, and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Pacific League. Career Brown was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 12th round of the 1985 Major League Baseball Draft. He reached the major leagues in 1988 and appeared in 35 games over two seasons with the Reds and one with the Baltimore Orioles, who had selected him in the Rule 5 Draft in winter 1989. He then played in Japan for several years, before playing for the Oklahoma Redhawks, Oklahoma City 89ers in , his last season before retiring as a player. A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in baseball or softball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base — the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. In the scoring system used to record defensive plays, the third baseman is assigned the number 5. Third base is known as the "hot corner", because the third baseman is often the infielder who stands closest to the batter—roughly 90–120 feet away, but even closer if a bunt is expected. Senichi Hoshino
was a Nippon Professional Baseball player and manager. In 2003, he led the Hanshin Tigers to their first Central League pennant in 18 years before retiring for health reasons. In 2007, he managed the Japanese national team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In October 2010 Hoshino was hired as manager of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. He led the Eagles to a Pacific League pennant and Japan Series championship in 2013. Childhood Hoshino was born the third of three children in Kurashiki, Japan. Katsuya Nomura
was a Japanese Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) catcher and manager. During his over 26-season playing career mostly spent with the Nankai Hawks (now the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks), he became one of NPB's greatest offensive catchers. He was awarded the Pacific League MVP Award five times, became the first NPB batter to win the Triple Crown in 1965, and holds the record for second-most home runs and RBIs in NPB history. Nomura was a player-manager for the last eight years he was with the Hawks, leading them to the Pacific League title in 1973. After playing, he became a full-time manager and served led the Yakult Swallows to four league titles and three Japan Series championships from 1990 to 1998. The International League (IL) is a Minor League Baseball league that operates in the United States. Along with the Pacific Coast League, it is one of two leagues playing at the Triple-A level, which is one grade below Major League Baseball (MLB). The league traces its roots to 1884, while the modern IL began in 1912. Following MLB's reorganization of the minor leagues in 2021, it operated as the Triple-A East for one season before switching back to its previous moniker in 2022. It is so named because throughout its history the International League had teams in Canada and Cuba as well as those in the United States.
