Martinikerk (Bolsward)
St. Martin's Church (also ''Grote kerk'' or ''Martinikerk'';Alle middeleeuwse kerken: van Harlingen tot Wilhelmshaven, P Karstkarel, p. 57 West Frisian: ''Martinitsjerke'') is a Protestant church in Bolsward, Netherlands, and one of the medieval churches in Friesland. The current church was built between 1446 and 1461, the small medieval church which stood at that location previously was demolished to build the new one. The tower of the church was built in the 15th century and the gabled roof was added in the 17th century. It became a Protestant church during the Reformation. There was a major renovation which, apart from work on the tower, ended in 1955. The church is located at the Groot Kerkhof 24 in the centre of Bolsward. It was listed as a Rijksmonument in 1968. It remains in active use, with a weekly Sunday service. Martinikerk (Doesburg)
The Martinikerk (also ''Sint Martinuskerk'' or ''Hervormde kerk'') is a church in Doesburg, Netherlands. The church's tower is the eighth tallest in the Netherlands at . History 1547 it was struck by lightning, heavily damaging church and tower. The tower was again damaged by French troops in 1672, the ''rampjaar''. Easterein
Easterein ( nl, Oosterend ) is a village in the municipality Súdwest-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It is southeast of Wommels and southwest of Itens, in the middle of Bolsward, Sneek, Leeuwarden and Franeker. The center is situated on the Oosterendervaart, which connects the Wijnsevaart and the Hidaardervaart with each other. In 2019 the village had 970 residents. The village also includes the hamlets Driehuizen (uninhabited part) Meilahuizen and Schrok. Until 1955 Roodhuis was also part of Oosterend. History The age of the village is unclear, it may have originated when the island on which it was situated, also referred to as Oosterend, had been diked. This was the earliest dike. It is also thought that it was created on a mound before that, but the village itself had several elevations, whether or not they were raised. Franeker
Franeker (; fry, Frjentsjer) is one of the eleven historical cities of Friesland and capital of the municipality of Waadhoeke. It is located north of the Van Harinxmakanaal and about 20 km west of Leeuwarden. As of 1 January 2014, it had 12,781 inhabitants. The Eise Eisinga Planetarium, established in 1781, is located in the city. History Franeker was founded around 800 as a Carolingian stronghold. The name probably derives from ''Froon-acker'', meaning "land of the lord/king"; the oldest street in the city is still called Froonacker. Martinikerk (Groningen)
The Martinikerk (Martin of Tours, Martin's church) is the oldest church in Groningen (city), Groningen, Netherlands. The church and its associated tower (the Martinitoren) are named after Saint Martin of Tours (316–397), the patron saint of the Bishopric of Utrecht to which Groningen belonged. The church was a cathedral for a short period during the first bishopric of Groningen (1559–1594). The origins of the Martinikerk are a cruciform church built in the 13th century, which was extended in the 15th and 16th centuries. It contains several 16th-century tombs and Wessel Gansfort's 18th-century tomb. Much of the wall and roof paintwork has been preserved. Of particular note is a 16th-century depiction of the life of Jesus Christ. The tower was built from 1469 till 1482, with later additions. Sneek (; fy, Snits) is a city southwest of Leeuwarden and the seat of the former municipality of Sneek in the province of Friesland, Netherlands.
