Martini (quartet)
Martini is the barbershop quartet that won the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Championship for 2012 on October 21, 2011, in Houston, Texas. SAI, "one of the world's largest singing organizations for women", has members over five continents who belong to more than 1200 quartets. History Martini formed in July 2007 at Sandy Marron's home in Tacoma, Washington. Singers Sandy Marron (tenor), Lisa Myers (lead), Shannon Harris (bass) and DeAnne Haugen (bari) were the "original blend" of voices. In April 2008, Martini competed at the Sweet Adelines International Region 26 Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia and placed first with a regional record-breaking score of 623 points. Later that year, they made their International Competition debut in Honolulu, Hawaii, placing 8th in the world. Tenor
A tenor is a type of classical music, classical male singing human voice, voice whose vocal range lies between the countertenor and baritone voice types. It is the highest male chest voice type. The tenor's vocal range extends up to C5. The low extreme for tenors is widely defined to be B2, though some roles include an A2 (two As below middle C). At the highest extreme, some tenors can sing up to the second F above middle C (F5). Sweet Adelines International Competition
The Sweet Adelines International Competitions are the annual global championships for women's barbershop harmony a cappella singing – in quartets and choruses – for members of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) and have been held annually between September and November since 1947. They are now the largest women's singing competition in the world with over 8000 participants at the 2014 convention. There are two competitions for choruses (the international championships and the "Harmony Classic" for smaller choruses), and two competitions for quartets (the international championships and the "Rising Star" for young singers). Melodeers Chorus
The Melodeers are an all-female, a cappella barbershop harmony chorus based in the metropolitan Chicago area. History Founded in 1960 in Deerfield, Illinois, the Melodeers Chorus is an a cappella chorus of female singers who sing in the barbershop style. Based in Northbrook, Illinois, they are the seven-time International Champion Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, the world's largest singing organization for women, with over 25,000 members worldwide. More than 600 choruses compete each year in regional contests to qualify for the international contest to determine the International Champion Chorus. The Melodeers have won the championship title in the years 2014, 2011, 2008, 2003, 2000, 1997, and 1994. Lions Gate Chorus
Lions Gate Chorus is an a cappella choir of Sweet Adelines International, based in the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area of British Columbia, Canada. The chorus competes in Sweet Adelines International Region 26, and are the 2024 International Champions of Sweet Adelines International. Founded in 1954, the group's name "Lions Gate" refers to the Lions, a pair of mountain peaks visible to the North of Vancouver. The famous Lions' Gate Bridge crosses the first narrows of Burrard Inlet towards the Lions. Under the direction of Sandy Robinson Marron, Lions Gate Chorus has achieved many regional gold medals. At Nashville, Tennessee in 1998, the chorus earned the International Harmony Achievement Award, which is given to the highest scoring small chorus at the International contest.
