The Martinez Clippers were a professional baseball team based in Martinez, California, United States, as members of the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs, an independent professional baseball circuit not affiliated with Major League Baseball. The team was named for New York Yankee Joe DiMaggio, who was nicknamed "The Yankee Clipper" and was born in Martinez. Bart Zeller
Barton Wallace Zeller (born July 22, 1941) is an American professional baseball coach and former catcher. He played one game in Major League Baseball in 1970 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Zeller grew up in the Chicago Southland and attended Rich Township High School. After high school he played college baseball and college basketball as a freshman at the University of Arizona for the Wildcats. He later transferred to Eastern Illinois where he excelled in both baseball and football. Zeller was signed by the Cardinals in 1963 and spent four years in the Cardinals' farm system. After missing the 1967 season, he spent 1968 and 1969 with the Lewiston Broncs and Arkansas Travelers, respectively. Zeller played in his only major league game on May 21, 1970, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He was inserted to catch the bottom of the ninth inning. The Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs was an independent baseball league based in Northern California. The league was founded in 2013 by four former North American League teams. History During the initial season, two Hawaii-based teams, the Hawaii Stars and the Maui Warriors, played inter-league games against the Baseball Challenge League of Japan; California teams played against the Freedom Pro League of Arizona. Both Hawaii teams ceased operations after playing the 2013 season citing high travel costs of bringing in opponents from Northern California. The East Bay Lumberjacks also did not return for a second season. Two expansion clubs were added in 2014 (the Sonoma Stompers and Pittsburg Mettle) bringing the total number of teams to four. The ''Vallejo Times-Herald'' is a nearly-daily newspaper in the city of Vallejo, California. It is printed six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. History Luther Gibson founded the ''Vallejo Herald'' in 1922. Later that year, he purchased the ''Vallejo Times'' and merged the papers.
