Martin Van Beek
Marinus Jan "Martin" van Beek (; 1 April 1960 – 26 August 2018) was a Dutch politician representing the Party for Freedom in the Senate (Netherlands), Senate. Between 2006 and 2009, van Beek studied New Business Development at the Business School Nederland, earning an MBA. He was a member of the Dutch Senate (Netherlands), Senate between 2 October 2012 and 9 June 2015 and again from 28 March 2017 until 25 October 2017, when he was temporarily replaced by Max Aardema due to illness. He returned on 14 February 2018 and left once again on 14 March 2018 to be replaced by Aardema once more. Van Beek returned to the Senate on 4 July 2018. Van Beek died at the age of 58 in Leersum on 26 August 2018 due to an accident. At the time of his death he was owner of a wholesale business in medical products. Senate (Netherlands)
The Senate ( or simply ' , literally "First Chamber of the States General", or sometimes ' ) is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Its 75 members are elected on lists by the members of the twelve States-Provincial and four electoral colleges for the Senate every four years, within three months of the provincial elections. All provinces and colleges have different electoral weight depending on their population. Members of the Senate tend to be veteran or part-time politicians at the national level, often having other roles. They receive an allowance which is about a quarter of the salary of the members of the lower house. Unlike the politically more significant House of Representatives, it meets only once a week. Ridderkerk () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality had a population of in and covers an area of of which is covered by water. Leersum is a town in the municipality of Utrechtse Heuvelrug in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It lies about 7 km (4.3 mi) east of Doorn and 9 km (5.5 mi) west of Veenendaal. Party For Freedom
The Party for Freedom ( nl, Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV) is a nationalist, right-wing populist political party in the Netherlands. Founded in 2006 as the successor to Geert Wilders' one-man faction in the House of Representatives, it won nine seats in the 2006 general election making it the fifth-largest party in parliament. In the 2010 general election it won 24 seats, making it the third-largest party. At that time the PVV agreed to support the minority government led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte without having PVV ministers in the cabinet. However, the PVV withdrew its support in April 2012 due to differences over budget cuts at the Catshuis. Max Aardema
Marcus "Max" Aardema (; born 11 February 1963) is a Dutch politician and former police officer representing the Party for Freedom. Career Before entering politics, Aardema was an officer of the Dutch National Police and worked as a coordinator with the crime investigation unit. He has been a member of the States of Friesland since 10 March 2011 and a member of the Senate, where he is temporarily replacing Martin van Beek, since 31 October 2017.
