Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating. The goal cage used in bandy is 3.5 m (11 ft) wide and 2.1 m (6 ft 11 in) high and is the largest one used by any organized winter team sport. Villa Lidköping BK
Villa Lidköping BK is a bandy club in Lidköping i Sweden. The club was formed on January 18, 1934 as Villa BK on Lockörn outside Lidköping, where the old club cottage still is. The club's name comes from the nearby estate (land), country estate Villa Giacomina. Villa has played in the Swedish bandy championships, Swedish championship finals six times, losing 4 out of the 6 appearances in the years 1975, 1983, 2012 and 2016 before finally winning in 2019 and again in 2021. Home games are played in Sparbanken Lidköping Arena. In October 2018, the club won its first Bandy World Cup, World Cup title. The Sweden national bandy team ( sv, Sveriges herrlandslag i bandy) represents Sweden in the sport of bandy. There are two separate national teams, a national bandy team for men, and a national bandy team for women. This article deals chiefly with Sweden's national men's bandy team. Sweden has been playing friendlies against Finland and Norway since the early 20th century. In 1907 and 1909 there were also occasional games against Russia and Denmark. The games were set up informally from 1907 and in official internationals from 1919. Agreements were made to play friendlies against Soviet Union in the late 1940s, but the plans did not come to realization. Finland, Norway and Sweden played bandy at the Winter Olympics in Oslo in 1952. After having seen them there, the Soviet Union invited these three countries to a four nation bandy tournament in 1954. It is distinct from the Bandy World Cup, a club competition, and from the Women's Bandy World Championship. A Youth Bandy World Championship also exists separately from the senior competition and has competitions in both the male and female categories. The 2020 Bandy World Championship for Division A was scheduled to be played in Irkutsk, Russia in 2020 but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 Bandy World Championship for Division A and B was initially scheduled to be played in Syktyvkar, Russia, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2018 Bandy World Championship
The 2018 Bandy World Championship was the 38th Bandy World Championship between men's bandy teams. The tournament took place in China and Russia. Division A matches were played in the Russian city of Khabarovsk and Division B matches in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. Participating teams and officials Eight nations were qualified for the Division A, where the matches were played in Khabarovsk, Russia. Canada would have made its return to Division A, as it won in the Division B last year, but declined to participate and was replaced by Hungary.
