Martin Heppell
Martin Heppell (born 14 November 1974) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda and Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL). Recruited from Carey Grammar (With Courage and Faith) , city = Kew & Donvale , state = Victoria , country = Australia , coordinates = , type = Independent, co-educational, Christia ..., Heppell played five senior games for St Kilda over two seasons, then went to Melbourne, at pick 28 in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft. He was also unable to gain regular senior selection at Melbourne, playing only two AFL games. Heppell was a member of Norwood's 1998 SANFL reserves premiership team. He later coached the Box Hill reserves and Mitcham in the Eastern Football League. Martin is now a partner/facilitator for The Resilience Project. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Norwood Football Club, nicknamed the Redlegs, is an Australian rules football club competing in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) in the state of South Australia. Box Hill Hawks Football Club is an Australian rules football club playing in the Victorian Football League. It has an alliance with the Hawthorn Football Club, which plays in the Australian Football League. Early Australian rules football in Box Hill – 1903 to 1935 Organised Australian rules football within the municipality of Box Hill can be traced back to the year 1903. In that year Mr EFG Hodges, the proprietor of the "Reporter" newspaper, founded the "Reporter District Football Association".
