Martin Goldsmith (screenwriter)
Martin M. Goldsmith (November 6, 1913 – May 24, 1994) was American screenwriter and novelist who wrote several classic B-movies including ''Detour'' (1945), which he adapted from his 1939 novel of the same name; '' Blind Spot'' (1947); and ''The Narrow Margin'' (1952), for which he earned an Academy Award nomination. Goldsmith, at one time the brother-in-law of actor Anthony Quinn, also contributed some stories to ''The Twilight Zone'' in 1964. B-movie
A B movie or B film is a low-budget commercial motion picture. In its original usage, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified films intended for distribution as the less-publicized bottom half of a double feature (akin to B-sides for recorded music). However, the U.S. production of films intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s. With the emergence of commercial television at that time, film studio B movie production departments changed into television film production divisions. They created much of the same type of content in low budget films and series. The term ''B movie'' continues to be used in its broader sense to this day. In its post-Golden Age usage, B movies can range from lurid exploitation films to independent arthouse films. Fort Massacre
''Fort Massacre'' is a 1958 Western directed by Joseph M. Newman, starring Joel McCrea, Forrest Tucker, John Russell and Susan Cabot. A possibly mad cavalry commander leads his troops through dangerous Indian territory. Plot An embittered cavalry sergeant must take over his regiment after their commanding officer is killed during an ambush. Vinson is driven by his hatred of Apaches, who were responsible for the death of his wife and children. He and his remaining men, including Travis and McGurney, try to ride 100 miles to the safety of Fort Crane, a fictional analogue of Fort Craig in New Mexico territory. Along the way they attack an Indian band, despite being heavily outnumbered. Vinson's vengeance knows no bounds, until Travis is ultimately forced to take a stand and confront him. Cast A Long Shadow
''Cast a Long Shadow'' is a 1959 American Western (genre), Western film directed by Thomas Carr (director), Thomas Carr and starring Audie Murphy and Terry Moore (actress), Terry Moore. The film was based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Wayne D. Overholser. Plot Matt Brown inherits a cattle ranch from his father with whom he never got along. He agrees to sell to the townspeople, who want to finally work for themselves. When he arrives back in town, he visits the house and, after meeting with an old girlfriend, decides not to sell, angering the people. However, he discovers that the ranch is deep in debt and about to be foreclosed on. In order to avoid this, he has to drive the ranch's cattle to Santa Fe in three days to sell them for the money to pay off the debt. The town's men help but still conspire to get the ranch.
