Martin Dixon (speedway Rider)
Martin Dixon (born 30 May 1961) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. Speedway career Dixon rode in the top tier of British Speedway from 1977 to 2002, riding for various clubs. In 1985, he helped the Middlesbrough Tigers win the Fours Championship during the 1985 National League season. The following season, in 1986, he helped the Middlesbrough win the Fours Championship again, during the 1986 National League season. He reached the final of the British Speedway Championship in 1995. In 1997, he won the Premier League Pairs Championship partnering Carl Stonehewer, while riding for Long Eaton Invaders, during the 1997 Premier League speedway season. Hartlepool
Hartlepool () is a seaside and port town in County Durham, England. It is the largest settlement and administrative centre of the Borough of Hartlepool. The 1985 National League was contested as the second division of Speedway in the United Kingdom. Team changes A new team called the Barrow Blackhawks entered the league but only staged a handful of fixtures. The team failed to meet the minimum points limit resulting in the league authorities stopping their participation. Scunthorpe Stags withdrew from the league in May. The East of England Showground is a large showground area (667,731sqm) located on East of England Way in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England. The Showground is owned by Bellway as of around 2019 and the site currently includes the East of England Arena and Events Centre and a motorcycle speedway stadium. In September 2021, EEAS entered into a land promotion agreement with Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG). Premier League Four-Team Championship
The Premier League Four-Team Championship was a contest between teams competing in the Premier League in the United Kingdom. Eight teams are grouped into fours, with one rider from each team in each race. The winners and second place of each group competed for the Championship in the final. History The competition replaced the National League Four-Team Championship (held from 1976 until 1994). It was first staged in 1995 when the Premier League was the highest tier of British speedway because the top two divisions had merged. However, in 1996, it reverted back to a competition for second tier teams in the British Speedway system. In 2017, the competition changed its name to the SGB Championship Fours. The 1997 Premier League speedway season was the second division of speedway in the United Kingdom and governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). Restructure A restructure of British speedway took place, with the Premier League becoming the second division and a new Elite League becoming the top division. During the two previous seasons (1995 and 1996) there had been only one division of British speedway also called the Premier League, this confused matters because the Premier League was now only a second tier competition.
